Fishing:
To fish on your farm, you must have water. River corners, river pieces, small ponds, big ponds, small lakes, and big lakes are all fishable.

To access your fishing pole, click on the yellow tool box. Then you click the fishing pole and then click on the water feature you choose.

Each piece of water holds a different amount of fish.


River piece: 32 fish; 4 types
River corner: 16 fish; 4 types
Bridge: 32 fish; 4 types
Big lake with boat: 199 fish; 6 types
Big lake: 229 fish; 5 types
Small lake: 46 fish; 6 types
Small pond: 18 fish; 2 types
Big pond: 86 fish; 3 types
If you had already water items in your farms, your fish are almost sure already grown so you can start fishing right away. If you just purchased a water item, then you may have to wait 8 or 24 hours for the fish to grow.

- To fish, just select the Fishing Rod and start clicking on the water. You will see the Fish count decreasing as you start catching fish.

- If the fish count is 0, it means you need to wait until all fish grow again. You don't need to wait until the counter gets to 0 as that can be quite hard, your lake or river will be full with fish in 8 or 24 hours anyway.

- On the 'Ponds' section on the store, click the '?' icon next to each item to see the type of fish living on it, how fast the fish grow again, etc.

- In general, the less fish in the water, the harder it gets.

- The fish go into storage and you can sell them at the market.





Here's an example of what you will get for some of the fish:

70 coins catfish
50 coins carp
90 coins tench
60 coins tilapia
200 coins salmon

I play FT a lot and enjoy it very much but what I don't understand is "WHY" I can build up my squid ( an newer fish) and yet cannot build up crab--lobster and/or salmon. When I do fish and I do 1 or 2 x daily, I get plenty of everything else except those 3 I mentioned.

As for buying. I buy plenty and I am not concerned about doing so but what's the point in buying more when these 3 are so scarce! I don't need more of the rest of the fish..I have thousands...

As for working other farms--been there--done that...and right now I just enjoy doing my own thing on my own farm!

I've just looked and realised that I'm replying to a post from the 'help and support' thread, that is probably not rightly in the correct thread, but I have to keep it here to comment. Please mods take both comments to the suggestions if that is where it should be.

Agreed, my crabbing fleet go out and fish their little hearts out day and night, but the offering is meagre compared to the amount of crab gobbled up by the sushi restaurant (four crabs for each of two dishes) and the seafood restaurant (five crabs for every batch of five supreme seafood mix) every time I restock the facilities.

I too would love an upgrade of crab and perhaps salmon on offer. I sometimes have time to fish for neighbours, but prefer to do my own thing when I'm busy with the real world, and I already have many lakes and sea coasts on my farms.

Make sure you don't have anything too close to them. This is what causes those spots where you can't fish. I find the seacoasts are touchier than the rest of the water features.

It doesn't go to your storage, but is applied to your lake features instead. Look at how much bait you have listed for a water feature (lakes & rivers or seacoast) then store your bait and go back and look again. You will see the amount has increased.

It may show in your storage but it is also added to your water features. I along with a lot of us used to see it in Non-ingredients, but I think they fixed that.
Try clearing your cache and Macromedia files and see if it disappears from your storage. Clearing your cache should clean up old data. Instructions in link:

Hi, I have noticed for a while while fishing with the green boat it shows +coins scrolling on the screen as well as how many of each type has been caught. Do you have anything close to them like trees or flowers ? Waters can be fickle things, they sometimes dont like anything placed near them as it can mask the ability to highlight and click on certain areas.

Oh someone else's farm ? Next time have a look and see if any of the pieces are overlapping each other. If there was something under the water, which you cant hide when you hired, that may be what's causing it.

Do you mean when you look in the store? All the new river pieces have the same fish in them as the old ones. Carp, Tilapia, Catfish and Sturgeon. Fish are fully grown in 1 day.

go to your tool box, grab the fishing rod and wave that over the water. there'll be a list appear with how many fish left - but not the varieties , though as you fish it tells you what you've caught

Yes a day is 20 hours. If you paid fc for the water it is 8 hours if you paid coins the water is 20 hours. The time starts when you take the first fish out of the water and it doesn't matter if you get all the fish out. Lets say you fish and think you got all the fish out then come back 5 hours later and see you missed 20 fish. You can get those fish at that time without resetting the clock on the water.

Each river, lake and seacoast has a certain amount of fish in it. The number will be up above the item.

Sturgeon has not been removed. It was stated in the July 28th Announcement for the release that:
9. The Tench fish was removed from all water items so you have more chances for other fresh water fish. All fish now have a use, except the Sturgeon which will be used in the next release
So Tench was removed and Sturgeon was supposed to have a use in this latest release. However for some reason that didn't happen. So Sturgeon is still there and shows in Non-ingredients.

Could you have another look please. I've just done some fishing to test this out, and Sturgeon is showing up under the "Non-ingredients" filter on mine.
It's always possible that this was a minor tweak that the devs updated recently.

I was NOT hiring for 6, I was hiring for 9. I had the button on 9. I do not understand what happened. Perhaps programming needs to be checked. I'm not having problems hiring on mine, but i don't have fish on 9. Is that the only farm you have fish on, if you have others did you get the same problem hiring for those? I have just plonked something down on 9 to test it out, but will have to wait until the fish have grown to try.

You probably know the routine stuff we recommend, could you just confirm that you have tried clearing caches please. If not try that and see if it makes a difference, will get rid of any old data and force new to be stored.

In the meantime i'll keep an eye out for anyone else having the same problem.

No you dont earn xp's for fishing

when you fish your own waterways you get fish only and your boat uses fuel

when you fish for others you recieve coins as payment and a percentage of the catch (supplied by the mayor) no Xp and the boat does not require any fuel when used on others farms (im not sure if thats a glitch or not) (SHHH:))

Try adding the small sea coast to storage reboot and then move back to farm and 1 day later see if it is fish-able again

I have same problem...with all the facilities that need crab and salmon, we can't get enough. Same thing with bait...I have 2 fish farms and still can't get enough bait. Now with the tackle shop, no way will I have bait to sell. And bait doesn't go to storage...it goes to your fishing boat.

Hello,

All bait gets stored with your waters, hover over one of your rivers or lakes to see what freshwater bait is available for use ( hover over one of your sea coasts to see how much seawater bait you have). Not having bait does not stop you from fishing.

You can get bait 3 ways now. You can get it from gifts as you already have found. You can get it by working your neighbors service facilities if they have the Fishing Tackle Shop. And you can get bait from the Fish Farming Plant which is a Farm Cash facility. This facility is available from Level 1 up so it isn't locked at all.

O.K., I guess you fixed it so that the tackle shop can pick up the bait. But, now the boat doesn't pick up the Freshwater bait that should have been stored. It does show the Seawater bait, though.

Are you sure you didn't put all of your fresh water bait in the Tackle Shop (it takes 15,000 to fill it)? Do you have any in storage? Are you hovering your mouse or the boat over a fresh water lake or river piece?

the belt system for fish has not yet been activated. I think from memory with the trees and flowers, it wont matter how much you have instorage either, it will only count harvests that occur after the belts are activated

Just like the rest of the belts only the Brown, black, and Dan (not available for fish yet) belts are publishable. What you are seeing then would be the lower level belts such as yellow, orange, etc.

Have you tried rebooting your modem/router this can often help with timeouts

Has anyone had any issues fishing? It is almost like the developers have added some complexity to the process of fishing, just like in real life. Yesterday, I was able to click most of the straight streams twice to get all of the fish, click the 99 fish count small sea coast 7 times, to get all of the fish. Today, it seems as if I had to click the straight streams 10-12 times, and the small sea coast 20+ times. I double checked, and I was using my big boat, and not my small boat.

Hmm, nope, sorry no problems here. I fished all mine earlier today without issues. When it's slow like that, another thing you can try is, either leaving the farm and returning, reloading using the farm selector diamond, or spacing out the fishing between something like harvesting/picking/any other job. Any of those can help to spread out the remaining fish and make them easier to catch.

Do you have the Fishing Tackle Shop? If you do , you could have loaded it all into there. It will take 15000 of each bait to max the facility out. When it's cashed out, the bait gets sold.

I don't think there is a difference for you, but it does give the hired person a certain percentage of fish from the mayor and not from you.

That's what I thought but in storage some of the fish say "large," which is what made me wonder. I suppose that might be because they'd sell for more if someone else did the fishing. But who in the world would ever have enough to sell? Not me!

If you have the Fishing Tackle Shop open it and uncheck both baits in there as that would be where it is going.

There are not equal amounts of each fish in the water ways. They should be based on percentage of each type based on need. Not sure it is exactly that way but they aren't equal. Also each type just as with the crops require different amounts to reach each belt level so quantity isn't going to keep the levels equal either.

All belt bonuses for crops, trees and fish are added together for both those you post and for those you click on to help someone else. The limit for all of this is 1 million coins worth in a 12 hour period.
Even if they got them and clicked like on your post does not mean you got it too depending on whether you have reached the limit.

Hi there,

You'll need to buy a river piece and a sea coast, as that's where the bait gets stored. I'm not sure what would be happening to your stored bait if you don't have any waters. Once you have them, the only way to sell bait is to own a Fishing Tackle shop, which is a service facility. You can load bait in there to sell it.

You could leave the bait in the Fish Farming Plant until you have some waters to build the stock up, or just don't make any bait, uncheck the boxes in the facility, if you don't want to have any waters.

Hi there,

Once you have stored your bait, reload your farm and check your waters again to see if the totals caught up. I find that the amounts don't automatically update until you refresh or leave the farm and return.

You may have them to close to another sea coast or lake or other items. Try shifting things around a bit and see if that helps.
Take a look at my farm 6 and you will see I don't put mine too close together. I don't have any problem with highlighting any of them.

You have to remember that bait is used to fish as well as in the Fishing Tackle Shop. If you post your Service Facilities, and your neighbors work them, your usage will go way up on the baits. You could uncheck the box in the Fishing Tackle Shop so that it isn't loaded in there until you build up a healthy stock of bait. But again, if you post the tackle shop to work, after you build up a stock, and you loaded it into the tackle shop, it will be gone again.

I have begun exchanging every gift received to bait. It's the only way I have been able to keep up with bait. But I also have 30+ sea coasts and 4 farms with fresh water ways to knock out all of the fish/seafood belts/dans. So my usage is very high, and I stock my tackle shop as well.

You could open the tackle shop and uncheck the box in the upper left corner of the two baits. This will then not load bait when you hit the start all button. You can manually load some to sell, if you build up a nice supply.

Yes, the Tackle shop USES bait and sells it for coins. Try unclicking the check marks in the Tackle Shops, if you use the Start All button. That way you can choose to manually load the baits into the shops once you have built up a nice quantity of bait.

Hi it doubles your harvest so say a sea coast says it has 99 fish ready to catch after fishing you will get 198 fish

It says Rest xx% grown. The means that even if you still have some fish to harvest the rest are xx 5 grown. Those would not be ready yet to fish.

Hi, I have noticed for a while while fishing with the green boat it shows +coins scrolling on the screen as well as how many of each type has been caught. If you have the Fishing Tackle Shop that loads bait at a rate of 15,000 each any time you load the service facility. If you keep doing that daily you will run out of bait fast. Solution - uncheck the bait in that facility so it doesn't load into it.

To check your bait, you should hover your mouse over the water item that the bait is used for, bait should go into there and not in your storage like crops and stuff.

The bait bonuses are not coming in at the value they are supposed to. Instead you get the gift amount which is 200 I believe. This glitch has not been fixed.
One other thing is to make sure you are not adding bait to the Fishing Tackle service facility. That uses a lot of bait.

Ok, feeling a bit stupid right now. I had a friend who has the fish farm and load all option who fished for me and she was sure that my bait was being taken without me loading it in, so I trusted what she thought, and did notice my bait pretty much gone when I'd had a large amount before. What I didn't realize is...she thought I had the fish farm and load all, so that's what she was going by when I talked to her about it all. I'm sorry, I should have checked my facts better before posting. Thanks for answering anyway. :)

As far as I know it is the same if you have someone fish for you. If you hire someone to fish and you have bait that they can use, cause the bait comes from the owner of the waters, then you get 2x what is caught from the waters and the person that you hire will get 2x the fish that is caught, I think the person you hire only gets a percentage of the fish, but I am not sure of that, the game guide doesn't mention that they only get a percentage, so it might be that you both get 2x the fish caught, but there is no real advantage to doing your own fishing. It actually helps out the other person that you hire, cause you both get fish.

I have a green boat, and catch 25 max at a time. Two clicks on a river section, for instance. Blue Boat? Are you certain it's not purple? I have not noticed anything beyond green, but I could be blind or stupid.

All it says is UP TO 9 fish, not that you will get that many all the time. Even with the green one there are times and locations that I might get only 1 or 2 fish.

I realise that Taz but all of the waterbodies were full when we fished this morning. I usually do my own fishing and observe that my green boat gets lots of fish, eg only three casts and the small salmon lake is empty. Before the green boat I used the blue boat and caught much larger numbers than 2 per cast.

All water bodies are on one farm and I never have any trubble, speshly since the highlighting on the big sea coasts was fixed so we could clean them out of fish each time.

There really was a problem when we fished this morning. :)

All bait should go into the waters and not into your storage, the amount in your waters should be the same amount that it shows in your Fishing Tackle shop. Bait is not able to be sold in the marketplace, unless your bait would go into your storage instead of waters, which isn't suppose to happen. The only things that we have ever been able to sell to neighbors or in the market is the basic ingredients and not from factories.

I haven't checked it recently, but last I did, the bait I got from wall bonuses went into storage and not my lakes. I don't see any bait in my storage now, so perhaps it no longer does that cause I thought I had some in there.

As Tony said you can fish them both.... but if you have only just bought the big lake with the boat it won't be ready to fish yet... takes 12 hours I believe.

Check your date and time on your computer and make sure they are correct as this can sometimes cause this kind of problem.
Also try clearing your cache and restarting your farm. If that doesn't help clear your memcache by clicking on this link:

Do you have the Fishing Tackle Shop? It is a service facility and it can have bait put in their. If you have that facility make sure that either you don't add bait to it or if you have the load all tool, go into the facility and make sure that the bait is unchecked.

I now tend to believe it is the dim out non relevant tools switch option that has created the problem for I turned that off after the last harvest and fish replenished after 8 hours. I am trying it, once again, back on.

Clearly there are ongoing timing issues in other areas, too, such as animal building production has also been of late, on occasion, noticeably off. Another example is that for over a week I was unable to store away Fish Farming Plant items until I started additional batch(es), I don't know if the "done" number represented real production --- well, real for Farm Town --- or just the number "117,000" stuck.

Taz, I appreciate your opinion and the time you are giving to problem solution; however, I assure you my system time and date is not off and I am not making this stuff up.

UPDATE. Appears that turning off the "dim out non relevant tools switch" option (and, subsequently, back on) triggered correction of the premium fishing waters not replenishing within 8 hour. The problem is now resolved.

You can still see the % grown. What you need to do is turn off the Dim feature then pick up one of the fishing tools and hover over your waters to see it.

Hi,

Bait from where? Gifts or the Fish Farming plant? To check you are getting bait, you need to check your waters to see how much of each bait is stored in them, then store your bait, then check again. You may need to reload if the data doesn't catch up straight away.

If you have the Fishing Tackle Shop, make sure you are not loading it all into there, you can use 15000 of each bait loading that. Open the facility and uncheck the boxes next to both baits if you want to stop loading bait into that facility.

It is 8 and 20 hour fish not 12 hour. That is all there is available. If you would like to make a suggestion about changing it then you need to post that in the Suggestions section. You cannot start a new thread there but you can reply to an existing thread that applies.

You or someone else doing the fishing is what will take the fish out of the waters and send them to your storage. Try switching the filter for your harvest /products storage to "Fish" to see just the fish in there.

Hi there,

Stored bait gets sent to your waters on your farms. Without a tool in your hand, hover your mouse over some sea water (coasts) for the seawater bait, and the rivers/lakes for the freshwater bait. It will show you how much you have.

If you own the Fishing Tackle shop, make sure you are not loading it all into there. It can use 15000 of each bait if you load it to maximum.

About a week ago, I apparently did something to cause those little check-boxes to be clicked again because, all of a sudden, I saw my bait had dropped to under 120,000 each. I went back and unclicked the boxes and the baits numbers are climbing again in the water. I have no idea what I did to cause it, but I suggest, like Tiger, that you check that out, even if you have turned them off in the past. Caught me totally by surprise! :)

you know sometimes after we get updates some of the check boxes get messed up so that is one thing to watch for... mine have quite a few times.....

I don't know how to word this, but it is getting absolutely ridiculous trying to hire somebody to fish. I have a large farm, but only have fish on 1 farm. And yes, I have alot of fish, but none of it is stacked and I don't have any rivers. I just hired a gal and she had the 1st boat, which helps her, but is not the turbo. I don't know why she was so patient, but it took her over an HOUR to fish that one farm. I understand you want to sell the turbos, but it should be reasonable to fish with the smaller boat and this is NOT reasonable. It's almost impossible to find people to fish for us and this is why - I wouldn't fish either unless I had the turbo boat. PLEASE fix this - we need to be able to hire for everything in the marketplace, but NOBODY wants to fish (same thing for flowers - nobody wants to do them). Thanks, I've vented enough.....

I cant help with your problem of finding players wanting to fish, but if they are having issues getting the remaining fish, what they can try is clicking the yellow diamond of the farm they are on to reload it, they won't lose the hire, that should spread the fish back out and make it easier.

I don't have that one, but I am guessing that sometime in the future the fish will be used in facilities. I bought the lake with boat before facilities existed cause there was nothing more to do in the game and I was top level and thought it looked nice. At least it is good for Salmon. Back then, I am not even sure it was good for fish. I bought it cause I liked it.

there are lots in the store that cost fc and are just decorative....no rule says fc items have to be productive that I know of, its up to each individual to spend fc on such things if they wish to...thats the beauty of this game, we can all play it the way we want to....luv it!!

Hmmm I'm not 100% sure but i think that came out as a decoration before fishing of waters was introduced. I don't think anyone has come up with a suggestion as to what those fish could be used for and where yet.

Hi! Have you bought the new 2x2 boat in coins? It allows you to catch 4 fish in a click but you cant use it in other farms. You find it in your tool box, it's blue, and above of it you'll see the 3x3 boat.:)

Hi,

Did you fish with the boat first then switched to the single tool? If so the remaining fish can be hard to get, reloading the farm would spread the fish back out again making them easier to catch.

if you visit the store, click on Ponds, and every type of water that has fish also has a ? in the top right corner....click on that and it will tell you what types of fish and how long till they can be harvested. Some are 8 hrs, others are 1 day..it all depends on the type of water, lol:)

I have noticed that when I load-all in my fishing tackle facility that all or most of my bait disappear in my storage which leaves no bait for fishing. The only way I can get around this is to manually load the facility and not load any bait. However, sometimes I forget, and then lose the bait again......any help here?

Open the Fishing Tackle Shop and uncheck the boxes in the upper left corner of both baits. Then when you Load All it will not fill the bait and will leave it for fishing.

I learned this the same hard way; it will take a while to restore your bait to previous levels. Same goes with fuel - if you have a Gas Station, uncheck the fuel cans there. I normally get around 2.5 million gallons when refueling, and could not figure out why the dispersement suddenly diminished drastically. So check the products carefully for new facilities, and have fun!

If you have the Fishing Tackle Shop then any bait you are getting from the Fish Farm maybe going there and not leaving any for your fishing. Check in that service and see if the check mark for Fresh Water bait is checked. If it is then uncheck it as that can use up to 15,000 bait each time you fill it.

WHY when I have in storage 12,934 SEAWATER BAIT is it showing NO bait when I hover over one of my seas?
I HAVE THAT BAIT! WHY can't it be used for fishing????

Thank you for any help here. Getting frustrated with the problems we are having. That darn huge flower harvester doesn't work as it should, an entire section highlighted as IF all will be harvested, click....then go back to verify and low an behold MANY are not harvested. AND it has not a thing to do with how flowers are planted or which ones either....I realize trouble with flowers BUT the harvesters too? The smaller harvesters work much better than the huge ones BTW.

Same can be said for the log trucks and tree shakers. THE ONLY large tool that works as it should is that boat that gets all fish as once.

So again will someone please tell me how to get my bait out of storage for use with fishing??? Thanks

The bait that shows in storage was an old problem and has probably been there since that glitch. The only thing you can do with that bait in storage is to sell it. I don't think you could even use it in the Fishing Tackle Shop as I don't think it will show up to be loaded there.
Speaking of the Fishing Tackle Shop, if you own that service make sure that the bait is unchecked so when you load services you will not be using up your bait. That shop will use up to 15,000 bait every time you load.

Taz, that bait in my storage is from clicking other people's bonuses for bait. Clicked MANY this week and as we know it goes to storage however I did check my tallies each time to be sure was going where it should. Personally I've harvested bait perhaps as many as 4 times, why waste coins as I see it when my friends are getting bonuses? Until today all my bait has come from a few gifts OR my storage. So what happened today is my question...I've been using bait from storage for a long time now.
As to my Tackle shop? Geez I haven't loaded bait there since I got it...

Up until today whenever my bait ran out and I rebooted FT and cleared FT cache the bait from storage would show in my seas when I hovered over them, what changed since perhaps a week ago?
