Due to the restraint they can't get the 3rd farm without paying farm cash for ALL the upgrades, nor can they get farm 4, 5, or the soon to be 6th farm (I can't wait for it!).
The devs have to put that into consideration if they are to change the XP structure. If they were to take the neighbor constraint off, than it wouldn't be a problem.
I guess I should have stated that in my original post as to why a change in the XP structure would cause users to lose interest.

on the story of needing 30 neighbors to get third farm. I think FT is more then fair plus there's tons of areas to go to find more neighbors. I've been playing Market Street for the past month. Im almost ready to quit it cause i can't progress anywhere. Almost all of their good stuff takes real cash. I need 11 neighbors to expand my store (and there are far more expansions that each require additional neighbors). Can't add more displays cause i can't expand. Can't add a 4th register cause i can't expand. You don't even get crowns (their equivalent to farmcash) for level ups. And it is harder to reach next level. only a handful of my friends play the game.
FT gives us alot to work with
