I restarted Chrome, thinking that would cause the update to occur, but still no dice. I decided to figure out what version of Chrome I had, and used the Chrome menu to go to Help > About Google Chrome. I saw immediately that I didn't have the 52.0.2743.82 m version, but then (happy surprise) the update began. It took less than a minute, and required a relaunch. After that, no extra mouse click.

I hope this helps if any other Chrome users have the same problem.

WOW.. thank you so much. Chrome kept telling me that updates were "automatic".. but took your advice and looked. No update showing for me, but it only took a few seconds to fix. Bless your little heart!!!
