Default What and who are my neighbours?

These are Friends that you have on Facebook that also play the game. Once you have sent them a neighbour request and they have accepted, they become your neighbour in the game. To see how to add a friend as a Neighbour scroll down to the next post.

As you progress through the game you will find you need neighbours for your 3rd farm, working facilites, quests, trains, ships and other features.

An easy way to access their farms is through the neighbour bar at the bottom of your game screen. Similarly, they can come and see your farm that way as well.
When you click on "Visit xxx Farm" you will be taken to their farm. If you have not visited them that day you will see a message asking you to do a quick job to tend to their farm, it's just a couple of clicks. You will earn 30 xp's for each neighbor whose farm you tend (watering, raking, etc) within a 24-hour period up to a limit of 100 visits. After that you will earn 1 xp. You can only tend each neighbor once a day.

The "Order by xxx" will let you change the order in which your neighbours are displayed in the neighbours bar.

The following picture is a mock up example of what you could see in the neighbours bar. We made this bigger so it's easier to see and explain and we removed/changed certain details to protect privacy.

Your box has the dark yellow background.

Your neighbours have the pale yellow background.

The grey generic Facebook picture
is where your profile picture and your neighbours profile pictures will be displayed.

Above the profile pictures are the Avatar names.

The Round coloured dots to the side of each picture are:
Green dot on any neighbours picture shows when you or they are online in the game.

Red dot on any neighbours picture represents a neighbour you have made a Super Neighbour. Super Neighbours are explained later in this chapter.

Purple dot represents a neighbour that has made you a Super Neighbour. Super Neighbours are explained later in this chapter.

Blue dot on any neighbours picture means that they have at least one co-operative quest open.
Co-operative Quests are explained in Chapter 28.

Beige dot on any neighbours picture means that they have active offers in their Trading Warehouse.

The little number top left of each box, you might be able to make out it has a yellow background, is your position amongst your neighbours according to how you choose to Order the neighbours bar. In the case of Ordering by Co-operative Quests this number will mean something else.

The white number on the right with the dark green background are yours and your neighbours game level.

Below those is your avatar picture and that of your neighbours so you have an idea what they look like should you meet up.

Below the avatar pictures the numbers change according to what you Order the neighbours bar by.

When you Order the Neighbours bar your profile box will always be in view, so you can quickly see where your position is among your neighbours, scroll the bar using the arrows to see more neighbours.

  • Order by Online: Will show you neighbours that are on line, listed from highest XP to lowest.

  • Order by Level: Sorts the bar from highest level and XP amount to the lowest.

  • Order by Best Diversification: Sorts by highest to lowest diversification numbers. This can be found in the Facility Manager and helps govern your buying limit. The more facilites you have at 100% production, the better the score.

  • Order by Help Given: Sorts the bar by highest to lowest help given points.
You get points for doing many things for your neighbours like, sending gifts, sending bonuses, sending ingredients, boosting trains. This tends to update once per day or every time your neighbour loads the game.
  • Order by Co-operative Quests: You are always furthest left, the rest are listed in XP order highest to lowest. The little number top left of each box, you may be able to make out it has a yellow background changes and now tells you how many neighbours you have that currently have at least one co-operative quest open, this includes you if you are doing them. If you are not doing them, the number you are looking for is the first neighbour to your right who has a blue dot.

  • Order by Trade Offers: You are always furthest left. Neighbours that have Trade offers will be shown to the right listed in XP order highest to lowest.

  • Order by Super Neighbour: Your super neighbours have the red dot, if you are super neighbour for a neighbour they will have a purple dot. The list is sorted according to level and XP amount highest to lowest,. When you first order the list your box will always be in view so your SNs and those you are SN for could be to the left or right of your position in the Neighbours bar.

  • Order by Names: Names with a symbol first will show first, then names with numbers at the front of the name, then by A-Z.

When there is an * at the front of the name of the list, it's there to show you which order you are currently using to order the neighbours bar by. When you change the order to another list the * moves to that list. In the example in the very first picture at the top of this post, the * is in front of "Order by Trade Offers".

Default How do I add a friend to my neighbour list?

Click on the "My Neighbours" tab above your game screen.
This is indicated with a red arrow in the picture below. When you click on it the tab colour will turn blue:

You will then see something like this but it will be a list of your friends.
Profile pictures have been removed and names altered for privacy. This example only shows 4 friends.

Near the top of the window you will see a message, in green, saying your friend is currently away from their farm. The "Go to xxx Farm" allows you to visit that farm to tend, water, rake etc.

Below that is a "Sort Players By" filter. You can click on that and change the filter to show your friends by Default, Activity, Level, Best Diversification, Help Given or Name. When you are looking for a friend to add as a neighbour we suggest you filter the list to "Name" so it will be easier to find them.

The "Show Active Players Only" lets you also filter the list to show only active players IF you place a check in the box.

When you have changed the filter to what you want, search for your friend.

Friends with a White background are those that have played the game or are playing the game but are not your Neighbour. If you want to add them as a Neighbour click on "Add as a Neighbour". This will send a request to them which they will find in the "My Requests" tab.
Their background will then turn yellow, example:

In that yellow box you then have another 3 options:
  • "Remind" which lets you send them a message on Facebook.
  • "Cancel Request" lets you cancel the request if you changed your mind.
  • "Send gift" takes you to the gift page where you can pick a gift to send to them.

When your friend has accepted your request, from the My Requests" tab, their background will turn blue, example:
NOTE: Sending a Neighbour request and them accepting it, puts that friend on YOUR neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen. It does NOT put you on their neighbour bar at the bottom of their game screen. For you to be a Neighbour for your friend they will need to send you a Neighbour request. When they send you one you will see it in the "My Requests" tab. Once you have accepted their request you will become THEIR neighbour.

When you reach your limit of neighbours, you will see the message in red, shown in the first picture:

If you try to add more one of several things can happen:
  • When you add a new neighbour 1 of your current neighbours will be removed from your neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen.
  • OR the request will be sent but when they accept it they will not be added to your neighbours bar
  • Or when you try to send a request the request will not be sent and the box will not change to yellow background.

If your friends do not play FarmTown, there is a blue button at the very bottom of the list of your friends called "Show Non-Farmer Friends". To invite a friend who does not play click on that button and a new window will open which lists your friends. You just click Send next to the name of each of the friends you want to invite to play Farm Town and then click Done at the bottom of the window.

When you accept a neighbour request that action will be shown in your friends Activity panel beneath the game.

If you send the request, and your friend accepts it, you will see that action in your own Activity panel beneath the game.

Default How do I get to my neighbours' farm?

If your neighbour is online, a green light appears next to their picture in your neighbour bar which is located at the bottom of the game screen.
Clicking on their picture in the neighbours bar will also give you the following options:
  • "Visit xxx's Farm"
  • "Join xxx": Sends a message to your neighbour asking for permission to join them wherever they are, if they accept, you will navigate to where they are located.
  • "Ask xxx to Join You": Sends a message to your neighbour asking if they want to Join You. If they accept they will navigate to where you are located.

These options work in almost every place. You or the other user can be on anyone's farms, marketplace, realtor or inn. The exception to this, is if you are trying to join someone on a Private farm, you can not go to a Private farm so you will be taken to their first farm.

The other items in that list let you send a message to them, see their Co-operative Quests, if they are doing them and have at least one open, set them as a Super Neighbour or Remove them as a Neighbour and view their Trading Warehouse.

You can also sell products to your Neighbour via the "Sell Products to xxx", without having to meet up with them, as long as they show online. If they are online they will have a green dot on their picture in the Neighbours bar. You must both be showing online for this to work. When you have sent your offer they will see it wherever they are, once they accept the offer you will receive a message telling you so.
To help you find out if your Neighbour is online you can order your Neighbours bar by Online Status. Click on your own picture or anyone's picture in the Neighbours bar and choose Order by Online Status. All your Neighbours that are online will show to the right of your own picture in the Neighbours bar. The arrows to the left of the Neighbours bar will let you scroll the bar to view more neighbours.

If your neighbour has just come on line and they are not showing as on line you can Refresh Online Statuses. Click on your own picture in the Neighbours bar and choose Refresh Online Statuses.

If you have never sold anything to another farmer before please read Buying and selling between farmers.

Another way to get to a friends farm or a neighbours farm is by clicking on the "My Neighbours" tab above your game screen which takes you to the list of all your neighbours.
If you click on their photo, you will go directly on their farm.

Default Neighbours and buddies? What's the difference?

To be your neighbour, a player must be part of your friends on Facebook.
When you visit your neighbours you can help raking leaves, watering their farm or flowers or remove weeds. This option appears once a day (and works towards you neighbour trophies!). Neighbours can also help you with other features of the game like trains ships and quests.

In addition, you can send them gifts.

None of this is possible with your "buddies" who are only contacts in the game

Default Can I have more than 8 neighbours?

Yes you can.

The neighbours limit is based on how many digits the database can hold, it varies because not everyones ID is the same length. ID's are normally 8 to 15 characters in length. so it can vary from 80 to 110. depending on the ID's of your neighbours. At the present time, it is a limitation of the game, and can't be increased.

When you reach your limit of neighbours, you should see at the top of the Neighbours tab a message in red saying "Your neighbour list is full. Please remove some neighbours before you add more."

If are not at your limit and you try to send too many requests, a previously sent one will be cancelled and that friends box with will revert from having a yellow background to white, and will again show Add as Neighbour, instead of Remind/Cancel Request.

If are at your limit and you try to send too many requests, one of two things can happen:
  • When you add a new neighbour 1 of your current neighbours will drop off your list.
  • When you try to send a request the request will not be sent and the box will not change to yellow background
.

To get neighbours, we must be friends as explained above. When one of your friends play FarmTown, it appears in your list of neighbours, on a white background. You just have to make a request to be neighbours. When they accept they will appear on a blue background. They are now your neighbour!

Note that for a neighbour to appear on your neighbour bar they must accept your invitation to be neighbours.

Default How do I remove a neighbor?

First decide if you still want them to have you as their neighbour. If you don't want them to have you for a neighbour do the steps in How to remove yourself from their neighbours bar FIRST.

If you do not mind them still having you for a neighbour scroll down to How to remove a neighbor and follow those steps.

How to remove yourself from their neighbours bar:
Click on their picture in your neighbours bar and Choose "Visit xxx's farm". When you arrive look bottom left of the screen for a yellow tool box and click on it.

You will then see this:

Click on this to remove yourself as thier neighbour.
Click on this to remove yourself as their buddy.

If you do not have them for a neighbour, but they have you for a neighbour you need to go to their farm and remove yourself so you can use the above instructions.

You can get to their farm via any of the following methods...
  • IF you have them as a buddy, the buddy list has a green man to click on to take you to their farm,
  • OR you can go there from an in game message they sent to you, open it and click the green man on the message.
  • You can see something like their facility work request, that you can click on, that will take you to their farm.
.

How to remove a neighbour:
  • Find your neighbour in the neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen, click on their picture and then click on Remove Neighbour

  • OR Click on the "My Neighbours" tab at the top of the game screen. There are several ways to search for them, it may be easier if you filter the list By Name. If you are not sure if they are still playing make sure you also remove the check mark for "Show Active Players Only", search for them and click "Remove Neighbour".

Default How may I know the number of neighbours I have ?

To know how many neighbours you have, three solutions :
  1. When you get some fuel, the number of you neighbours appears on the calculation screen.

  2. Click on the "Neighbours" tab in game... and count them!

  3. However, the easiest way to know is to open your trophies list: the first trophies tell you how many you have!
This is the Trophy icon, click on it to see your Trophies. If you do not see it in the game bar at the bottom of the game screen you will find it in your tool box.

This is an example of 35 neighbours:

Default What is a Super Neighbour?

What is a Super Neighbour?

It's main purpose is to allow you to select one (or may be a few) neighbours that will be permanently hired to work your farms when you go on vacation or have to be absent from the game for a while. They will be able to access your farms at any time to work them without the need for you to be present.

There are also additional permissions you can set for them, like planting, designing a specific farm for you, train management.

How do I make a neighbour a Super Neighbour?
Click on your neighbours picture in the panel at the bottom of your game screen, then click on Set as Super Neighbour.
You will be able to set various permissions that will allow your neighbour to do things like work your farms that are not Private along with any other permissions you choose to set for them.

The following picture shows you what the options look like, in this example all options are checked. It is entirely up to you what permissions you give to a super neighbour.
Permanently hired for farming will allow your neighbour to harvest/plow/chop/shake trees/harvest flowers and fish using their own tools or yours. Add a check mark for "Permanently hired for farming" and then add a check mark for each of the jobs you would like your Super Neighbour to do. For doing these jobs they earn exactly the same as they would as a neighbour, buddy or a friend hired from your farm. They do not get the bonus chest. For information on what they can earn see Chapter 09 Hiring.

The Allow Planting option will allow them to plant your fields with any crop that your game level allows using your coins. The exception to this is if you have designated a specific crop or specific type of crop, to plant on a specific farm or farms. In that case, they will only be able to plant the crop you designated for that farm.

You and your super neighbour will earn 2 XP per plot seeded. To plant for you they must open their toolbox and click on either the seeds icon or a seeder tool, when selecting a seed to plant, the Tooltip with the amount stored will reflect the amounts for the farm owner (not theirs), same for the belts shown.

If you own the manure spreaders, they will be able to Fertilize your farms for you. If you own the Mobile sprinklers for Watering Flowers or Irrigating they will be able to do those jobs for you.

When using tools, the fuel will be used from your fuel first unless you have changed the setting. There are 3 options for allowing your SN to use your fuel. Click the drop down arrow to change it to what you want.

How to designate what your SN will plant on each of your farms:

Open the tool box and click on the Super-Neighbour Manager. A new window will open like this:

Each individual box is one of your farms. The green shading on a farm is the farm you are currently on.

To set different farms with different crops, click the little drop down arrow on each of the farms.

To set all farms with the same crop or type of crops, click on the drop down arrow on the Set All To: box at the bottom center of the window.

When you click the drop down arrow a list will open you can scroll using the scroll bar to the right of the box. There are quite a few options:
  • Any crop by specific grow time.
  • None
  • Specific Crop

Click on the option you want planted. Your selection will turn blue.

will show you the names of your farms.
will return you to the previous window.

When you are done making your choices click the green check mark at the bottom of the window to save, then the window will automatically close.

If you change your mind about the changes you made, just click the red X and the window will close leaving the farms set as they were.

When you want to set all farms back to Any crop using the drop down on Set All To box it defaults to Any, so in this case you need to click on another other option first, doesn't matter which one, so it goes blue, and then click on the Any option again to turn it blue, and then it will change them all back to Any. Remember to click the green check mark to save.

Note: Your SN will not know beforehand , unless you tell them, what you crop you have designated for each farm. When you have chosen a specific crop or type of crop, they will only see those options when they open the store and will only be able to plant what they are shown. When you have chosen the Any option they will see a full list of seeds to chose from and will be able to plant any crop they choose.

Permanently Hired for Design allows them to design the farm of your choice without the need for you to be present. They will be able to move any items, freeze or unfreeze flowers (one at a time, NOT using the Flower Freezer-Unfreezer Tool), temporarily hide items with the Hide Tool. They will also have access to some other tools like the Orange, Green and Purple Freestyle Farm Designer tools (orange/green/purple hand), that you or they own. The default setting for which farm to design is set for "Current farm" you may change that by clicking on the drop down arrow to the right and choosing the name of the farm you want them to design. They can only design ONE farm at a time.
Allow Buying and Selling Items With My Coins allows them to buy any coin items using your coins, both you and they will earn XP for what is bought. They may sell your coin items and also do the following. . .

a) Use his or your Bulldozers (including Excavator), Multi Planter, Transplanter, Plowing tools on your farm. This option must be checked if you wish them to plow new fields on your farm, the reason for this is that the money for the plow fields are taken from the farm owner so this should be approved by you. Your neighbour will never be able to delete Farm Cash items.

b) Buy new ground covers for your farm.

Your super neighbour will NOT be able to...
  • buy/sell animals for you.
  • use the Purple Freestyle Farm Designer to buy any Farm Cash items or use any FC items in your storage.
  • use the Tower Crane (they have no access to what your item capacity is. When they view that information it will show as 0 capacity spaces.

A quick way for an SN to know what tools they are allowed to use on your farms is for them to go to your farm and look in the Tool box. Any tools they are allowed to use on your farms will show up when they look in their toolbox. Any tools that are greyed out, they do not have access to.

Permanently Hired for Management

Currently the only option is the one listed below so when you add the check mark to enable permanently hired for management, it will also add one for management of trains.

  • Allow Management of Trains

This will allow your Super Neighbours to manage your trains: This includes dispatching and unloading your trains and also boosting others trains. To enable this setting you need to add the check mark and click the green check mark to save.

IMPORTANT! Your SN MUST pay attention when unloading and dispatching your trains to make sure when you own enough trains with enough long cars on them to quailfy for the Mayor bonus that you are going to get it! - Just like when doing your trains yourself there is a visual and pop up warning IF they unload too many trains, without dispatching them, and try to unload another one. If they ignore the warning and proceed to unload the train by clicking the green check mark, without dispatching what the pop up tells them to do, you will not get the Mayor bonus.

When the background colour of a train is pink, this means that you do not have 3 trains (with at least 10 Long cars) in the dispatched or ready to unload state, that you need to be able to earn the Mayor Bonus.

    Example 1:

In this example the SN MUST dispatch 1 train that has a PINK background, BEFORE unloading another train or you will NOT get the bonus!

    Example 2:
In this example the SN MUST dispatch 3 trains that have a PINK backgrounds, BEFORE unloading another train or you will NOT get the bonus!

When they unload your train they will see the notification the train was unloaded, amount of products you recieved and any mayor bonus earned. Example:
When they dispatch your train there is also a brief notification. Example:
NOTE: An SN can not boost thier own trains, they will not be able to see thier own boosts.

There is no reward for dispatching and unloading your Super Neighbours trains, however, if that Super Neighbour has received train boost requests from his/her neighbours, and you are the one to boost those trains, then the product rewards from the boosting goes to you instead of your Super Neighbour.

When you have this permission go to their farm and click on the yellow tool box bottom left of the screen.
You will then see the Train Manger Icon, click on it and it will open the Train Manager. If you do not have permission for Train Management the Train icon will be greyed out. This example shows the icon not greyed out so this user has permission:
If there are trains to unload and dispatch they will be showing up in the Trains Section.
If there are train boosts, they will be showing up in the Boost Other's Trains section.

There will be a number on the toolbox if there are any trains for you to boost. Example of what the number looks like on the toolbox and the train icon in the toolbox on the farm you are Super Neighbour for:

In the example below you can see the Supreme is ready to Unload, the Enhanced is already unloaded and ready to be dispatched and the other 2 trains are still out on their journey.

Click on Unload to unload a train.
Click on Dispatch to dispatch a train.
Click on Boost to Boost the trains for that farmers friends.

The pictures have been altered to protect privacy. You will see the boost senders profile picture and their first name and also the avatar name of the farm owner who's farm you are on.

You can also disable the Super Neighbour's farming permissions per farm at the farm level. This disables the ability to to harvest, plow, plant, chop etc on that particular farm. They will then still be able to visit that farm but will not be able to work it.

Go to the farm you do not wish them to work and click on the Farm name. Add a check mark for Disable Super-Neighbour Farming.

To check who you have made a super neighbour: Look in your neighbours bar at the bottom of your game screen. All those with a red dot are your super neighbours. You can also sort your neighbours bar by super neighbours. Click on anyone in the bar and choose "Order by Super-Neighbour". Example:

To check who has made you a super neighbour:

There is a notification in the Activity panel beneath the game screen when a friend makes you an SN, if you check there. This will show their real first name not their avatar name unless they are both the same. When you set one of your neighbours as a super neighbour, they will see that action in the Activity panel beneath their game screen. Example:
You can also look in your neighbours bar and see which of your neighbours has a purple dot. Remember their avatar name may not be their real name. Those with a purple dot have set you as a Super Neighbour. Example:
When you go to their farm you will then also have a red dot in your picture in the neighbours bar. If you have been hired to design a farm for them, when you get to their farms, there will be a red dot in the farm grid on the farm that you can design. The following example shows permission to design farm 1.

To remove the Super Neighbour permissions: Click on your super neighbors picture in the neighbors bar and click on Edit Super Neighbour. Remove ALL of the check marks for ALL of the options. Then click the green check mark to save.

Please, if you choose to make a neighbor a super Neighbor, make sure you communicate with them exactly what it is you want them to do, especially if you are allowing them to use your coins. We have seen many complaints that SN's are doing what they want with the farms and NOT what the farm owner wants.

There is a limit on how many Super Neighbours you can have. The limit is around the 20 mark. If you try to add another super neighbour and you are at your limit you will see a warning message informing you. You will have remove one or possibly more depending on farm id length to be able to add a different super neighbour.:
